This show is a work in progress; Lauren, dressed all in black, energetically mimes to the voices of dead celebrities and music from dead artists. Crucially, throughout the performance, Lauren never uses her own voice. This is an exploration into the question; “who is allowed to grieve?”, as well as an experimental look into what happens when the dead are given the chance to speak for themselves. The performance will be looking specifically at mourning and the impact of grief and death on a mourner. This piece is inspired by personal encounters of death, well-publicised celebrity deaths, and the phenomenon of grieving for somebody you’ve never met.
